BASHH BHIVA Joint Conference 2026

Download Event to Calendar

In a time of increasing uncertainty in the global picture with US cuts in funding, it is more important than ever to focus on the many key advances in research, treatment and care across sexual health in the UK.

In April 2026 we will be joining BHIVA in Liverpool for the sixth joint BASHH & BHIVA conference. It will be an amazing opportunity to bring the two foremost clinical societies in HIV and sexual health together to share our research and the latest updates on clinical management and prevention.

Abstract submissions

Abstract submissions are now open at https://bhiva.org/event/bhiva-bashh-2026

Abstract deadline: 08:00 UK time Monday 19th January 2026

Abstract submissions are invited for poster and oral presentation at the joint conference. Please download the abstract submission guidelines here. You will be notified of the outcome of your submission w/c Monday 16th February 2026.

The British HIV Association and the British Association for Sexual Health and HIV invite research papers of high quality in areas of HIV and sexual health research. Abstract submissions are peer reviewed for quality of research, scientific content, novelty/innovation and logical presentation.

Abstract submission categories

Your abstract should be submitted to one of the following categories:

  • Treatments for HIV and STIs: efficacy, interactions & pharmacokinetics
  • Basic science: immunology, virology & pathogenesis
  • Behaviour, transmission, prevention, health promotion and outreach
  • Children and Pregnancy
  • Co-morbidities, co-infections and treatment complications
  • Complex cases
  • Contraception and reproductive health
  • Testing initiatives
  • Epidemiology and surveillance
  • Prevention tools
  • Psychosocial issues, sexual dysfunction and quality of life

Guidelines on the word count

Our online abstract submission system counts words slightly differently, in some cases, to Microsoft Word, and so we have produced guidelines to ensure all submissions are kept within the 350-word limit. Submissions over the word count are marked as incomplete and will be withdrawn if not amended by the submission deadline.

Please download the word count guidelines here.

Programme

‘Call for session proposals’ – deadline 3rd November 2025

It is the intention of the Programme Committee to feature topics of interest to both BHIVA and BASHH members on all days, some of which will be running in parallel, others as plenary sessions. As part of both organisations’ commitment to providing high quality education showcasing a range of topics, we are seeking proposals for conference sessions/symposiums from members of both organisations (including those representing Special Interest Groups, sub-committees and affiliated organisations).

If you are interested in putting forward a session for the conference, please download the session proposal form here and email to conferences@bhiva.org once completed.

Due to programme space and conference logistics, we will not be able to accommodate all requests, but priority will be given to the following:

  • Topics of broad interest to conference attendees from both BHIVA and BASHH.
  • Symposiums featuring topics which are new or have not previously/recently been covered at conference.
  • Proposals which include speakers from a diverse range of backgrounds/disciplines, in line with BHIVA/BASHH EEDI review recommendations.
  • Symposiums that include speakers drawn from the community.

All proposals will be reviewed by the BHIVA/BASHH Programme Development Committee (PDC). If selected, symposiums will be allocated a PDC member who will work with you to finalise details for the symposium.
