BASHH President Statement on the Publication of the 2025 PrEP Guidelines
11 July 2025
Professor Matt Phillips, President of BASHH, said:
“I’m proud that BASHH, working in close partnership with BHIVA, continues to play a leading role in advancing equitable and evidence-based HIV prevention. The 2025 PrEP guidelines mark an important step forward in supporting inclusive access to PrEP for all those at risk of HIV, wherever they live in the UK.
We know that PrEP has been a game-changer in reducing HIV transmission — but we also recognise that access and uptake remain unequal. These new guidelines seek to address this unacceptable reality, with dedicated sections on PrEP equity and suitability that move beyond traditional eligibility criteria, supporting a more person-centred and accessible approach to care.
I would like to express my sincere thanks to the writing group and all contributors who have brought their expertise, dedication and passion to the development of the guidelines. With new, clear and practical guidance now in place, we look forward to seeing the impact of this work in widening access to PrEP, reducing new HIV transmissions, and improving health outcomes for all communities. “
