Supreme Court ruling on terms ‘woman’ and ‘sex’ in the Equality Act 2010

BASHH has issued the following comment:

BASHH stands in solidarity with our trans community and we are proud of our diverse community of practice. We continue to celebrate and advocate for care with dignity and respect for all people who need our services, including trans and gender diverse people.

We know at BASHH that yesterday’s Supreme Court ruling brings uncertainty and worry amongst the communities we serve and our membership. We are pleased to see the Court clearly re-affirm the Equality Act 2010 protects all trans people against discrimination, based on Gender Reassignment, and will continue to do so. We are committed to upholding our principles of good sexual health care for all. Our doors have always been open and will continue to be open for everyone.
