Dr Darren Cousins
Fellow To The Board
Darren went to medical school in Manchester and then worked in training posts in Edinburgh, Blackpool and Manchester before consultant posts in Northamptonshire and now Cardiff. He has worked in three different devolved health systems in the UK and has firsthand experience of the benefits and the challenges in each of the environments. Currently working in Cardiff, he has an interest in service transformation taking on a lead for this within the university health board.
He enjoys the challenge of developing sexual health services related to men who have sex with men, with the aim of making healthcare more accessible and relevant to those who need it with the background of austerity, PREP and vaccination challenges. As a postgraduate trainee, he was on the North West Medical Leadership Programme and used the time to develop networks in primary care commissioning of alcohol services and roll out HIV testing in acute settings. He sits on the Clinical Effectiveness Group and BASHH and has helped to integrate external professional researcher support into national BASHH treatment guidelines.Back to the list of BASHH Board Members
