HIV and Sexually Transmitted Infections in the UK

12 Sep 2012 until 12 Sep 2012

A one day symposium on HIV and Sexually Transmitted Infections in the UK, HPA in partnership with BASHH

The HPA in partnership with BASHH is organising a full day symposium focused on HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) which will bring together experts from across the HPA and partnership organisations to present innovative science, novel interventions and examples of practical health protection in the field of sexual health. The symposium will be set against the wider context of current changes to public health in England, including the impact of new commissioning arrangements, Public Health England and 'any qualified provider'.

We are calling for quality abstracts for oral presentations and posters, and the best posters will also be selected for short presentations in a new poster-talk format. We particularly welcome submissions on any of the following topics:

  • Interventions to control HIV and STIs, including HPV immunisation, HIV and STI testing and treatment as prevention
  • Investigations of HIV/STI-related incidents and outbreaks
  • Antimicrobial resistance
  • Use of new technologies, including sequencing and molecular tools
  • HIV/STI epidemiology, including modelling and mapping studies to better understand sexual health need
  • Outcome evaluations, including the use of new public health surveillance tools
  • Information technology, social media and internet-based interventions

Sessions will include guest speakers and scientific abstracts, with opportunities for discussion and debate. The symposium will be of interest to epidemiologists, microbiologists, virologists, clinicians, commissioners and public health specialists with an interest in sexual health and sexually transmitted infections.
