Having had his training in Birmingham and Bristol, he was appointed to his current post of Consultant in HIV and Genito-urinary medicine at Walsall Manor Hospital in 1993. Service improvements earned a Chairman's Quality Award from the Walsall Health Authority in 1994.
With a successful bid of £1.4 million from the Department of Health, a new purpose built premises was secured for the department, further enhanced by the appointment of a second consultant, foundation year trainee and specialist registrar.
His major interests are research ethics, research in the epidemiology of sexually transmitted infections and cervical intra-epithelial neoplasia. He has published in these areas and was also awarded Margaret Godley Memorial Prize in 2005 for a presentation. He is the Chairman of the Local Negotiating Committee for the Trust, vice-chair of the Black Country Research Ethics Committee, Personal Mentor for the Birmingham Medical School and the Regional Advisor to the Royal College of Physicians, London.
