What is 'STIFCompetency'?

  • modular competency-based training & assessment package for non-specialist & specialist health care professionals requiring more specialist skills to manage people with sexually transmitted infections
  • adapted from the Department of Health's best practice guidance 'Competencies for providing more specialised sexually transmitted infection services within primary care' (1).
  • complements the recommendations made in 'Standards for the management of sexually transmitted infections (STIs)' (2).

    • Reproductive and Sexual Health (RSH)
    • Level 3 GUM services
  • Pharmacists
  • Other interested healthcare professionals

AIM

Suitable for

To develop skills, experience and competence in diagnosing and managing uncomplicated STIs in order to lead and deliver a Level 2 standard service

Doctors and senior nurses

Certification

Trainees who successfully complete any of the modules will

  • receive a nationally recognised STIF certificate, verified by BASHH
  • be registered on the national STIFCompetence database of accredited healthcare professionals

The revalidation process will be every 5 years details of which can be viewed here
