BASHH Undergraduate Prize

BASHH will award one annual prize of £200.00 for reports submitted by undergraduate students on a subject related to sexually transmitted diseases, genitourinary medicine, or HIV infection.

Regulation

Entries for the prize will take the form of a report written in English.


The report may concern qualitative or quantitative research observations, a systematic review, a literature review or case reports. The work should be carried out by the entrant and the report should not exceed 2,000 words (excluding references). The subject must be approved by a consultant with an interest in sexually transmitted diseases/HIV infection at a University Medical School who is a member of BASHH. This consultant should also confirm that the conditions of the prize have been fulfilled and should confirm the primary role of the entrant by means of a statement.



The role of the entrant, who should be the primary (first author), and any collaborators should be provided in details in a covering letter together with the names of supervisors. Entries must be typed, double spaced and single-sided on A4 paper and unbound for the purposes of photocopying.


Following vetting by a hanging committee, each submission will be subject to review by three individuals and the overall prize winner decided by the hanging committee made up of members of BASHH Board and Education Committee which will make recommendations to the Board when appropriate. The winner will be informed 2 months after the deadline. The winner will be invited to attend an OGM to receive their prize and present their work as an oral presentation.

Entries must be submitted within 12 months of graduation.

The assessors may ask the editor of an appropriate journal to consider an entry for publication. If so, the author's permission will be obtained. It will be reviewed for publication in the usual way.

The process will be overseen by the General Secretary / Chair of Education Committee.
